Morwellham Quay served silver, tin and copper mines in the area

A restored Victorian mining village and museum in Tavistock has been put up for sale with a guide price of £1.1m.

Two months ago Devon County Council announced it was to stop funding Morwellham Quay, a world heritage site, leaving it with a £1m shortfall.

It went into administration and then closed in October.

Sealed bids and written proposals on what prospective buyers would do with the site must be submitted to the estate agents by 21 January.

In the 1970s Morwellham Quay attracted more than 150,000 visitors a year, but this number has since dropped by two-thirds.

In its heyday as an attraction about 300 people were employed at the site, which once served the local silver, tin and copper mines.

Michael Easton, of King Sturge, said: "This is an incredibly unique property so is quite difficult to deal with.

"However, we are expecting a lot of interest."

The mining industry in the UK was made uneconomical by globalization.

In going along with the depraved state that is Britain these days, the site would be better put to use as a gay bar, a mosque, housing for some wogs, or there is always the ever popular holyco$t museum.
"The Jews are not nearly so clever as many seem to think. They dig their own pit and fall into it without being pushed. And when they are in it they shriek for help from the same people for whom they dug the pit. And, when they are rescued, they began immediately to dig another." - Donald Day in Onward Christian Soldiers
